Photo was taken in Kehlsteinhaus (or more commonly known as “Eagle’s Nest”) in Berchtesgaden, Germany. Shot from the mountaintop overlooking what I assume is Lake Konigssee or Salzburg (someone please correct me if I am mistaken).
Quick history: This was built as a present for Adolf Hitler’s 50th birthday in 1939 to serve as a retreat house and entertain visiting dignitaries or diplomats. However, in the remaining 6 years of his life, he has only been here 17 times because of his claustrophobia and fear of heights since he will need to use a small, tight and dark elevator that cuts from the foot of the mountain straight up to the peak. Said elevator is still being used by tourists up to this day.
So I guess my 2015 came a bit early now that I’m writing again even when I said I’d start next year… I. Just. Couldn’t. Resist!
